"This is the strongest rubber you can find. I took it from a truck tyre and cut the profile with a reactor blade. Then I use sand paper for the sides to make everything even. For the holes in the leather, I take iron. You basically need three pieces of leather and it is very difficult to adjust the holes to each other, because I make everything by hand - there are 28 holes in the sole and 28 in the leather."

Is there a traditional Malawian shoes design?

"I can make you a traditional shoe. Next time, when we butcher a goat, I can make you one. But I don't know, if there is a traditional design from Malawi. You know, shoes are around since many many years. You can't tell any more who came up with the idea."
